What data does the app collect?
Follow My Watch collects location data only: your geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude), positional accuracy, and a timestamp. This data is sent from your smartwatch to our server while tracking is active.
The app does not collect any other personal data. There is no account registration, no email address, no name, no device identifiers beyond the randomly generated watch ID, and no analytics or usage tracking.
How is the data identified?
When the app is first installed, it generates a random 8-character identifier (the "watch ID"). This ID is not linked to your name, your device serial number, or any other personal information. It is the only way location data is associated with a particular installation.
Only people who know your watch ID can access your location data. The watch ID acts as a private link. It is not listed publicly on the website and cannot be discovered by browsing followmywatch.com. You choose who to share it with.
How is the data stored?
Location data is stored on the followmywatch.com server for the current tracking session only. When you start a new tracking session, the previous session's trail data is automatically deleted and replaced.
This means:
- No historical location data from past sessions is retained on the server.
- Only the most recent session's trail and last known position are available at any time.
- If you stop tracking and start again, the old trail is cleared.
Who can see the data?
Your location data is accessible only via your unique watch ID link (e.g. followmywatch.com/abc12xyz). Only people you share this link with can view your location on the map.
Is data shared with third parties?
No. Follow My Watch does not share, sell, or transfer your location data to any third party, for any purpose. Your data stays on the followmywatch.com server and is only accessible through your unique link.
What third-party services are used?
The map displayed on the tracking page uses map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When someone views your tracking page, their browser requests map images from OpenStreetMap's tile servers. Your location coordinates are not sent to OpenStreetMap — only the map area being viewed is requested by the browser.
How can I delete my data?
Starting a new tracking session automatically deletes the previous session's data. If you would like all data associated with your watch ID removed from the server, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Children's privacy
Follow My Watch does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app collects only location data with no personal identifiers, and a parent or guardian should manage the sharing of the watch ID link.
Changes to this policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update this page with the new date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
